11 People Have Died in Road Accidents in Madeira This Year

On average, Madeira records one fatal road accident every month, with the total number of accidents steadily increasing. Speeding remains the primary cause of these incidents.

11 Fatalities Recorded in 2024, Six Involving Motorcycles

In 2024, Madeira has already witnessed 11 fatal road accidents, with six of these involving motorcyclists and three pedestrians. Authorities are highlighting the ongoing issues around road safety, particularly the role of speeding in these tragic events. Throughout the previous year, a total of 13 people had died in road accidents.

Speeding Remains the Leading Cause of Serious Accidents

Excessive speed continues to be the main factor behind severe accidents. As of November 2024, the number of accidents resulting in damage has increased by 49 compared to the same period last year, underscoring the growing danger on the roads, and obviously also being a testament to the increase in traffic in Madeira.
