14 Kilograms of Heroin Seized in Major Drug Bust in Funchal

Police in Funchal have seized more than 14 kilograms of heroin and 9 kilograms of MDMA in what has proven to be the largest drug bust in Portugal this year.

Largest Drug Seizure of the Year in Portugal

In a significant law enforcement operation, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) of Madeira announced the seizure of 14.26 kilograms of heroin in Funchal, The heroin seizure marks the largest drug confiscation in Portugal so far this year.

28-Year-Old Man Arrested in Drug Trafficking Operation

As part of "Operation Anniversary," a 28-year-old man was caught in the act and arrested on strong suspicion of drug trafficking. The individual was transporting the drugs in a concealed manner within his vehicle, authorities revealed.

Additional 9 Kilograms of MDMA Also Discovered

In addition to the heroin, law enforcement officials uncovered approximately 9 kilograms of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) hidden in the same vehicle. Both drugs were prepared for distribution and had the potential to generate thousands of individual doses.

Suspect to Face Judicial Authorities

The suspect is set to appear before judicial authorities for a hearing where a coercive measure will be applied.
