2024 Sets Record with 5 Million Passengers at Madeira Airports

Passenger traffic at Madeira and Porto Santo airports exceeded five million for the first time in 2024.

December Sees Steady Growth

In December 2024 alone, Madeira's airports handled 377,400 passengers on 2,916 commercial flights. These figures represent an increase of 6.2% in passenger numbers and 7.7% in flights compared to the same month in 2023.

TAP Air Portugal announced it transported nearly one million passengers to and from Madeira in 2024, averaging nearly 2,700 people traveling to or from the island with TAP every day.

More Than 90 Daily Flights On Average

For the entire year, a total of 34,547 flights (94 daily flights) landed and departed from Madeira's airports, carrying approximately 5.1 million passengers. This represents a 1.4% rise in flight movements and a 4.6% increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year.

Numbers For Madeira and Porto Santo Airports

The main airport, Madeira International Airport, saw both aircraft movements and passenger numbers increase. It handled 31,800 flights, 1.9% more than in 2023, and 4.8 million passengers, up by 4.8%.

Meanwhile, Porto Santo Airport experienced a 3.8% drop in flight movements, with 2,700 flights recorded. However, its passenger count rose slightly to 247,900, a 0.4% increase from the previous year.
