A Celebration Rooted in Tradition
Madeira’s New Year’s Eve festivities are among the most celebrated in the world, with the island’s iconic fireworks display serving as the pinnacle of the event. Once recognized as the largest fireworks show globally, the first minutes of the new year in Funchal are watched by locals and visitors alike. As mentioned before, this year, the theme of the eight-minute spectacle is "Madeira Tiles," (Madeira Azulejos).
A Multisensory Experience, Scaled-Down in Porto Santo
The fireworks, orchestrated by the northern Portuguese company Macedo de Spiriotecnia, will combine music, lasers, robotics, and video projections to create an immersive experience. The show is set to begin 20 minutes before midnight and continue for eight minutes after the clock strikes twelve, synchronizing sound and visuals to welcome 2025 in grand style. The company has also been tasked with delivering a similar, though scaled-down, display on Porto Santo. Both shows will feature the same components, ensuring consistency in quality across the islands.
90,000 Fireworks to be Launched From Land and at Sea
In Funchal, over 90,000 fireworks will be launched from approximately 60 firing points on land and at sea, providing a panoramic spectacle. Preparations for the show begin on December 30, with final touches made throughout the day to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Weather and Final Preparations
Organizers are optimistic that favorable weather conditions will prevail, much like last year, ensuring an uninterrupted show.
