Meet AJEA, The Funchal-Based Organisation That Stands Up For Young Entrepreneurs

A Funchal-based organization empowers young people to sustain as entrepreneurs in Madeira. They discussed with government representatives how to tackle the difficult environment for young talents in Madeira.

AJEA: Empowering Tomorrow's Generation

The Associação de Jovens Empreendedores do Atlântico (AJEA) is a non-profit organization based in Funchal. It was founded in 2022 to promote entrepreneurship and economic development in the Atlantic region. The AJEA provides mentorship to young entrepreneurs, which should contribute to the social and economic development of Madeira. It furthermore offers a variety of training programs aiming to build a more innovative and participatory society, all under the banner of sustainability. It wants to be a platform to support “the creation of business plans and financing”.

Meeting With The President Of The Legislative Assembly

On March 12th, the AJEA met with the president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues. AJEA, a new association, aims to inspire young people about entrepreneurship's role in the economy and job creation. They plan to be a platform encouraging and supporting young entrepreneurs with business plans and financing.

“It is possible to create companies, create business ideas and make something real”

André Teixeira, President of the AJEA

Keep Young Talents In Madeira: Improve Housing, Salaries, Affordability

The AJEA will soon launch a podcast featuring regional businesspeople sharing experiences to inspire youth. AJEA focuses on boosting the economic situation to improve housing, affordability, and salaries, aiming to retain young talent in Madeira. Ricardo Gomes, AJEA's vice president, stresses the need for more investment in youth to prevent talent drain from Portugal. He suggests a joint strategy between companies and the Regional Government for better conditions and salaries to encourage young people to stay and create something new.

“[Improve the conditions, so that] young people can stay here to develop their ideas, their companies, and even help existing companies to grow in the market”

Ricardo Gomes, vice-president of the AJEA

José Manuel Rodrigues pledged attention to these concerns, aiming to improve working conditions and salaries for the youth. He also offered Parliament facilities to support events that contribute to Madeira and Porto Santo's economic development.
