Albuquerque Remains in Power After Search Warrant
During an improvised press conference today and after having his home searched by the police, the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, declared that he would not step down from his position. This is despite ongoing investigations by the Judiciary Police (PJ). In his announcement, Albuquerque emphasized the importance of various public projects, such as the Curral das Freiras cable car tender, licensing in Praia Formosa, and the urban and interurban public transport tender. He clarified that these issues do not involve the sale of Quinta do Arco or the Madeira Free Trade Zone process.
Albuquerque Promises to Cooperate
Albuquerque assured that both himself and the Regional Government would actively cooperate with the PJ to shed light on the situation. Even in the event of becoming a defendant, he firmly stated his refusal to resign, asserting that doing so would enable him to better defend his innocence. The president emphasized his clean record, asserting, "I've never had any case of corruption," and made it clear that he cannot be influenced, stating, "no one buys me." He also underscored his longstanding reputation among the Madeiran community.
