Suspect Faces Serious Charges
The 42-year-old man, suspect in the Camara de Lobos bank robbery, has today been interrogated in the District Court of Madeira. The suspect, who used cable ties and a firearm appeared handcuffed today while trying to conceal his face. He faces charges of aggravated robbery and kidnapping which can result in up to 15 years in jail. However, as was reported, the suspect is without prior legal convictions.
Interrogation Continues Tomorrow
The incident occurred on January 12 at around 9 am, resulting in the theft of €214,000 from the bank. The masked perpetrator, a family man of three children, fled in a car parked about 200 meters away from the bank. There was no driver, as initially reported. He was apprehended without offering resistance, following the police's tracking of his car, which was involved in the robbery. The ongoing investigation is set to resume on Friday after interruptions today. The severity of the charges and the community's response highlight the significant impact of the crime.
