NRP Bartolomeu Dias: A Dutch-Born Frigate
The HNLMS Van Nes, a Karel Doorman-class frigate constructed in the Netherlands, has concluded its service in the Dutch Navy. Commissioned in 1994, the vessel played a crucial role in NATO operations, including STANAVFORLANT and Operation Enduring Freedom. Following a distinguished career, the Van Nes was decommissioned in 2007 and subsequently sold to the Portuguese Navy, marking a new chapter in its maritime history. Today, captain Elias Cagarrinho is in charge of the NRP Bartolomeu Dias, and there's a crew of 136 people on board.
