Atlantic Conferences Seek to Explore Churchill’s Impact on Western Democracy

The Madeira Press Museum in Câmara de Lobos, hosts the 2nd Atlantic Conferences starting today and tomorrow, January 25th and 26th. The event will begin at 3 pm and bring together experts to reflect on the legacy of Sir Winston Churchill, with a focus on his connection to the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Camara de Lobos in particular.

In its second edition, the Atlantic Conferences serve as a platform for national and regional reflection under the theme Winston Churchill, the Freedom of the Sea, and the Atlantic Charter. The conferences aim to explore Churchill's impact on Western democracy. Notable contributors include experts, academics, and prominent figures such as Jose Barroso, the former president of the European Commission.

By celebrating Churchill's visit to Madeira, the Atlantic Conferences aim to revisit the meaning of his commitment to the Western and European tradition of freedom under the law

Great-Grandson Randolph Churchill Will Hold Speech

Randolph Churchill, the great-grandson of Winston Churchill and administrator of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, will also be present. He holds key roles, such as honorary member of Churchill College in Cambridge, director of the Armed Services Charities Advisory Company, and administrator of the Churchill Center in the UK and USA.

This collaborative initiative is organized by the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, the Institute of Political Studies of the Portuguese Catholic University, and the International Churchill Society of Portugal. The event is sponsored by the Presidency of the Regional Government of Madeira.
