Public Ministry Demands Preventive Detention
Pedro Calado, Avelino Farinha and Custódio Correia have been in custody for over 2 weeks and they will remain so until at least Wednesday, February 14. The Public Ministry previously earlier today requested preventive detention for all three accused. Custódio Correia’s lawyer had previously objected to the case of preventive detention, saying it was not justified. Avelino Farinha's lawyer also called the promotion of the investigation not correct from a legal point of view.
There is no evidence of the commission of any crime.
Pedro Calado is Tired
As Pedro Calado’s lawyer claimed that his client provided a “wonderful performance” but that he is now tired of the deprivation of liberty that has been imposed upon him. Calado therefore only decided to respond directly to the judge and not the prosecutor. To speed up things in court, Pedro Calado's defense also skipped asking for clarifications.
A Myriad Of Accusations
In the aftermath of the mega-operation, the ongoing investigations are looking into a myriad of crimes, such as:
active and passive corruption
economic participation in business
malfeasance
influence peddling
receiving or offering undue advantage
abuse of power.
