This year is special, as the entrance of the Farmers' Market will have a big screen playing songs and Christmas carols.
At 10:45, the distinguished singing group Confraria dos Cantares will be honored with an award. This group, a key symbol of the market, has been enchanting audiences for over 30 years and will again be showcasing their talents in Praça do Peixe. 🌟
How it All Started and Where Tradition Began
Funchal's Market Night originated in the historic D. Pedro V Market, established in 1890 and situated in the vicinity of the present-day Funchal Customs House.
In 1940, with the inauguration of the Mercado dos Lavradores, the celebration transitioned to its current location and has been held there ever since.
This event marked a significant shift, turning Funchal into the prime destination for acquiring fresh groceries in preparation for Christmas Eve festivities. 🎄
