Investigation Extends To The Time Pedro Calado Worked For The Afa Group
In the years 2014 and 2015, during the presidency of Alberto Joao Jardim, significant projects were initiated in Madeira. Notably, the contracts for these projects were signed when Pedro Calado, the resigned Mayor of Funchal currently imprisoned in Lisbon, held a key position in the AFA group, a construction entity involved in these endeavors. Pedro Calado, who served in the construction group in 2014, later assumed the role of Vice President of the Regional Government of Madeira in 2017.
Investigation Focuses On At Least 10 Cases
These projects involved various initiatives, such as fixing access routes to Funchal Beach, improving sections of two regional roads and an urban area, and building slopes and walls in different places across Madeira. Expresso reports that there are at least 10 contests that involve the Afa Group that took place during Joao Jardim’s presidency. The ongoing investigation is looking into potential irregularities or misconduct during the execution of these urban projects.
