Hotel Occupancy Rate Will Reach Around 95%
The Funchal Flower Festival (Festa da Flor) is expected to witness a hotel occupancy rate of around 95% during its period from May 2nd to May 26th. This information was provided by the Secretary of Tourism and Culture, indicating an investment of 950,000 euros for the event. The festival aims to extend its duration throughout May to maintain consistent tourist numbers, contributing significantly to the regional economy.
Occupancy Rate Higher Than Previous Years
Activities will be concentrated in downtown Funchal, particularly along Avenida Arriaga, where the Flower and Regional Products Market will be set up. The event marks a departure from previous years, where the festival was confined to a shorter period, notably achieving a hotel occupancy rate of 72% in 2015 compared to the current 95%.
Save The Date: Flower Parade on May 5th
The highlight of the festival is the Flower Parade on May 5th, featuring 1,800 participants from 14 groups parading along the coastal avenues of Funchal. Additionally, two cruise ships will dock at Funchal Port on this day, bringing 4,400 passengers and 1,600 crew members. Another significant event is the construction of the Wall of Hope on May 4th, where 700 children will place a flower symbolizing peace.
Thousands Participate
Overall, 3,600 individuals are involved in this year's Flower Festival, which includes various activities such as concerts, floral carpet displays, exhibitions, a classic car parade, and a golf tournament with 100 participants from different countries. The festival aims to showcase Madeira's cultural richness while providing economic benefits through increased tourism. See more on the Festa da Flor - Official Website.
