Funchal Marina Has New Management
The management of Marina do Funchal has been awarded to the Associação MarinaFunchal after an international public tender process, and the decision has been communicated to the competitors. The company will run the marina's shops, nautical services, and tourist areas for the next 15 years. They offered to pay €750,000 per year plus VAT (total: more than €900,000) to manage the 60,000 square meters of space. Other bidders included RIM - Engenharia e Construções S.A., Tecnovia Madeira, and a consortium of Desarrollos Concesionales Insulares S.L. and Neptunepirate Lda.
According to the source, the delay is mainly due to issues with the transfer of fuel deposits, which unexpectedly became the responsibility of APRAM, the organization managing the marina. This task was not included in the original contract, but APRAM had to step in after the company that was supposed to handle the fuel supply backed out, forcing the marina's owner to take on these extra responsibilities.

When Is Funchal Marina Opening?
The Funchal Marina project is running behind schedule and was supposed to open in September of this year. According to the latest news, it should now be finished by the end of April 2025. However, only after that will work begin on the bars, shops, and restaurants under sub-concession. The Associação MarinaFunchal, which already manages the water-based operations and two dry-land spaces, will continue its role, ensuring continuity. They plan to hire new employees while retaining the current staff protected by the public tender.
