Temperature In Funchal Reaches Only 19.0 ºC Today

Today, temperatures failed to rise above 20 ºC for the first time this winter. Funchal reported today's extremes at 16.6 ºC as the minimum and 19.0 ºC as the maximum, making it one of the coldest days in a long time. The day has been consistently chilly, cloud cover persisted throughout, casting a gray hue over Funchal. The Funchal Meteorological Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 19.0 ºC at 11:30 am, as per official records until 5 pm.

Coldest Day On January 19th

This winter's lowest average temperature, at 17.8 ºC, may be set today if the recorded extremes of 16.6 ºC (minimum) and 19.0 ºC (maximum) persist. Notably, this remains higher by two-tenths compared to the lowest average temperature recorded on January 19th (17.6 ºC), a day when extreme temperatures dipped to 13.8 ºC (minimum) and rose to 21.5 ºC (maximum) – the coldest day this winter in Funchal.

7.4 °C, The Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded In Funchal

The coldest day ever recorded in Funchal is 7.4 °C. This happened twice both on Valentine’s Day in 1984 and exactly three years earlier, in 1981. Back then, snowfalls hit Madeira at relatively low altitudes.
