The regional secretary of Finance, Rogério Gouveia, expressed explicit concerns over the insufficient funds allocated to Madeira in the Sustentável 2030 program. He advocated for including more regional projects, stressing the importance of additional investments for Madeira within the program.
Portugals Sustentável 2030 initiative aims to mobilize 3.1 billion euros for addressing energy and climate transition, with 136 million euros specifically earmarked for Madeira's climate change response and disaster prevention.
Despite three specific call notices already open for Madeira, Gouveia highlighted the significant disparity between Sustainable 2030 and its predecessor, POSEUR, which had almost twice the funding.
696 Million Euros in total
The challenges posed by the size of Madeira and the additional costs associated with its distant location necessitate continued efforts to secure support for regional projects. Notably, the financial resources used for reconstructing areas affected by the 2010 storm were depleted in 2022.
However, the overall execution of the Law increased to 695 million euros in 2023, utilizing regional government revenues to complete the works. In 2023, over 20 million euros were invested, adding to the regional government's approximately 50 million euros already spent.
