Local Accommodation Increases 23.5% Within 12 Months
In March, Madeira saw significant growth in local accommodation, with a 23% increase compared to the same period last year. The hotel sector accounted for 71.2% of overnight stays in March 2024, thus growing 2.8%, while local accommodation (26.3% of the total) and rural tourism ( 2.5% of the total) rose 23.5% and 5.8%, in the same order. The total growth was reflected in the 181,000 guests and 924,000 overnight stays. In March 2024, tourist accommodations generated a revenue of 54.5 million euros.

Germany Remains Most Important Market
The top ten source markets in tourism (both hotel an AL), including Germany (23%), the United Kingdom (19%), and the domestic market (14%), accounted for 80% of total overnight stays in March 2024. France and Poland followed with about 5%.
Room Occupancy Rate At 74%, Prices Up 10%
The room occupancy rate in March 2024 reached approximately 74.1% (74.5% in March 2023), with an average income per room used (ADR) of €97.06. This marked an 11.1% increase from the previous year. Over the first three months of the year, total overnight stays in tourist accommodations in the region increased by 5%, surpassing 2.4 million.
