One of the world’s most expensive and most technologically advanced yachts, The Maltese Falcon, has arrived in Funchal today. Its majestic three masts and 15 sails are sure to catch the eye in the port of Funchal. The vessel arrived at 8:00 PM from Antigua in the Caribbean and will depart tomorrow at 11:00 AM bound for Palma de Mallorca.
Setting Sail With DynaRig Technology
The Maltese Falcon is a remarkable yacht that stands at 88 meters in length and was once considered the world's largest privately owned sailing yacht. Today, it is still one of the largest of its kind globally. Built by Perini Navi in Tuzla, Istanbul, it gained attention when owner and businessman Tom Perkins (84), intrigued by the innovative DynaRig technology, incorporated three self-standing, computer-controlled rotating carbon fiber masts into the vessel's design.
Advanced Technology For Impressive Maneuverability
Equipped with advanced technology, the yacht boasts impressive maneuverability, capable of sailing off anchor and berths within harbors. Perkins even claimed to have personally contributed to its control software. While the exact cost remains undisclosed, Perkins hinted at a substantial price tag, likely between $150 million and $300 million. According to Google, renting the yacht for a week can cost up to €580,000.
