Madeira Wins Again At World Travel Awards
Madeira achieved triple recognition at the 31st European Gala of the World Travel Awards held tonight at The Ritz Carlton in Berlin, Germany. For the 10th consecutive time, Madeira was named the best island destination in Europe. Porto Santo received recognition for having the best beach, and the Madeira Promotion Association was classified as the best tourism entity.
Madeira Beats 12 Other Islands
Competing against 12 other islands in the same category, Madeira outperformed the Azores, the Canary Islands, Ibiza, Majorca (Spain), Crete, Cyclades (Greece), Sardinia, Sicily (Italy), Malta, Cyprus, Guernsey, and Jersey (United Kingdom). Madeira had previously won the award for Best European Island Destination from 2013 to 2023 with the exception of 2014 and 2022. On December 1, 2023, Madeira also received the honor of the Best Global Island Destination for the ninth time.
Porto Santo Awarded Best European Beach Destination
In a historic win, Porto Santo secured the title of Best European Beach Destination for the first time, surpassing Algarve and contenders like Cannes (France), Corfu and Costa Navarino (Greece), Majorca and Marbella (Spain), and Sardinia (Italy).
Best Tourism Entity in Europe Also Goes To Madeira
The Madeira Promotion Bureau was also honored as the Best Tourism Entity in Europe, competing with 13 nominees, including Tourism France, Tourism Austria, Tourism Croatia, Tourism Ireland, Tourism Germany, Tourism Greece, Spain's Tourism Institute, Tourism Italy, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Tourism Slovenia, Tourism Portugal, and Visit England.
