According to contracts available on Portugal’s public procurement platform, Portal BASE, the municipalities of Machico and Câmara de Lobos will spend significant amounts on Christmas and New Year decorations this year. Machico is considering €108,100, while Câmara de Lobos has allocated €101,000 for their respective celebrations.
Concerns Over Budget Prioritie
The combined expenditure of over €200,000 highlights the importance local governments place on holiday decorations as a way to enhance the festive spirit and attract visitors. However, in times of widespread global uncertainties, such spending sparks debates about prioritizing public funds and energy consumption.
