IPMA Issues Alert for Heavy Showers Across Madeira Islands
The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a yellow weather alert for Madeira, warning of heavy rainfall across the whole island. According to IPMA’s forecast, Madeira will experience showers, sometimes intense, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms. This alert will take effect in two main periods over the next two days.
First Period of Intense Rain Expected Thursday Evening
The first yellow alert period begins this evening at 18:00. and is expected to last until 06:00. Friday. During this 12-hour timeframe, heavy showers will affect Madeira's North and South coasts, the mountainous areas, and Porto Santo Island. A depression moving in from the North is anticipated to bring turbulent weather conditions to the entire archipelago.
Friday Evening to Saturday Noon Brings Second Rain Surge, Orange Alert Possible
A second phase of rainfall is predicted to hit Madeira Friday evening, starting at 18:00., with the yellow alert set to extend until noon on Saturday. This second period, lasting approximately 15 hours, could bring sustained downpours and thunder. IPMA has indicated that, depending on the intensity of the rainfall, the alert level may be upgraded from yellow to orange.
