31.3ºC Measured In Pico Alto Today
Pico Alto, located in the Ecological Park of Funchal, recorded the highest temperature of the year in Madeira, reaching 31.3ºC today. The record was reached at 3 pm, on the same day that the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued an Orange Alert for hot weather in the mountainous areas of the island.
Highest Temperature at 1125 Meters
The peak, located at 1,129 meters of altitude, surpassed the previous mark of 30.4ºC registered in São Vicente last Saturday. The Orange Alert, which indicates a moderate to high risk of hot weather, will remain in effect until 6 pm on Thursday, due to the persistence of high temperatures. The highest temperature ever in Madeira was recorded last year with 39,1ºC in Quinta Grande.
Madeira Under Yellow Alert For Hot Weather
Meanwhile, the rest of the Madeira archipelago remains under Yellow Alert for hot weather. The IPMA warns of the risks associated with high temperatures and recommends that the population take precautions, such as avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, staying hydrated and seeking cool, airy places.
