Mayra Santos Achieves Historic Swimming Record
The Portuguese-Brazilian swimmer Mayra Santos, has successfully completed a remarkable swimming the 60 kilometers from Madeira to the Desertas islands, and back. This achievement marks the first time such a challenge has been successfully undertaken.
Supporters Gather To Celebrate 21 Hours Of Swimming
As previously reported, the journey began at midnight from Praia das Palmeiras in Santa Cruz. After nearly 21 hours of continuous swimming, Santos returned to the same beach at approximately 8:50 PM. Her arrival was met with cheers and congratulations from a large crowd of over a hundred supporters who gathered to witness and celebrate this historic moment. Watch the video on Facebook.

Santos' accomplishment not only showcases her incredible endurance and determination but also sets a new benchmark in the swimming community. After her successful 32km swim around Porto Santo last year, her successful round-trip swim from Madeira to the Desertas islands stands as a testament to her exceptional skill and perseverance.
