Epic 60-Kilometer Swim to Challenge Open Water Swimming Records
In a remarkable feat of endurance and determination, open water swimmer Mayra Santos plunged into the waters of Santa Cruz at midnight, aiming to become the first person to swim unassisted to Deserta Grande and back to Madeira Island. Mayra Santos, a resilient Brazilian swimmer residing in Madeira, last year accomplished a remarkable achievement by completing a 32-kilometer swim around Portugal's Porto Santo Island.
Milestone In The History Of Professional Open-Water Swimming
According to her team, Mayra is in good health and highly focused on achieving this monumental goal. "For the first time, this crossing is being attempted to achieve significant milestones in the history of professional open-water swimming," they stated. Mayre previously earlier this year swam to Porto Santo in what was a 32km swim.
Swim Is Expected To Take Approximately 20 Hours
The swim is expected to take approximately 20 hours. In addition to this formidable challenge, Mayra is also preparing to represent Portugal at the World Ice Swimming Championships in Argentina from August 12 to 18.
