Snowfall Covers High Altitudes of Madeira

Snow has been falling in the higher regions of Madeira yesterday, particularly in Pico do Arieiro and Paul da Serra. According to Vitor Prior from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this trend is expected to continue over the next few days. Joana Sousa, a meteorology specialist, has confirmed that snowfall will likely continue in the highest parts of the island until Thursday.

Cold Weather to Persist Throughout the Week

The current weather conditions, marked by low temperatures, will remain at least until Thursday, March 6. Forecasts indicate maximum temperatures in Funchal will range between 18 and 19 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be around 13 degrees. In Porto Santo, the lowest temperature is expected to be 12 degrees. Light showers are also expected, particularly in mountainous areas, increasing the likelihood of more snowfall.

Rain Expected on Friday, Warmer Temperatures Next Week

On Friday, March 7, a weather front is expected to pass over the region, bringing some rain, though not in significant amounts. A more noticeable improvement in weather conditions is anticipated from March 9 onward, with temperatures expected to rise to around 21 or 22 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 16 degrees for the minimum.
