Correia Challenges Albuquerque For PSD Leadership
Manuel Antonio Correia has formally declared that he's running for the leadership of PSD/Madeira. With the elections for PSD leadership on March 21st having no other contenders, Madeira will see a face-off between Correia and his old rival: Miguel Albuquerque.
Correia aims to bring about a new era marked by updated politics and new individuals. Acknowledging the existing political challenges, also surrounding the corruption scandal that involves Albuquerque, Correia is driven by the idea that people in Madeira don't feel well-represented within the party.
Correia Previously Ran For Leadership, And Lost
Manuel António Correia, who ten years ago served as the regional secretary for the Environment and Natural Resources in Alberto João Jardim's administration, contested the leadership of PSD/Madeira directly against Miguel Albuquerque. However, he faced defeat in the second round, securing 37% of the votes compared to Albuquerque’s 63%.
Jardim Approves Correias Candidacy
As posted on X today, the godfather of Madeiran politics, Alberto João Jardim clearly approves of Correias Candidacy.
The autonomist courage and social-democratic militancy of Dr Manuel António Correia in running for the leadership of the PSD/Madeira, despite the Party being undermined and controlled from within by personal interests! I signed it, for Madeira and for a future of UNITY.

Correia: Involve Younger Members In Leadership Roles
Correia underscores the necessity for a party restructuring to avert electoral setbacks. Central to his vision is the imperative for PSD to reconnect with society, instilling a sense of joy and purpose among its members. He particularly emphasizes the inclusion of younger members in leadership roles to rejuvenate the party.
