The IPMA has upgraded the weather warning for the south coast to an orange alert.

Severe Weather Alerts Issued

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued an updated weather warning for Madeira, with the South Coast and Mountainous regions now under an orange alert. The alert, which warns of intense rainfall, will be in effect from 06:00 to 18:00 today.

Bad Weather Hits the South Coast

Along the South Coast of Madeira, the expected heavy rain could lead to dangerous conditions, including flooding and poor visibility. Residents and visitors are advised to take precautions during this time. The alert extends to Madeira's Mountainous regions, where strong rainfall is also expected. Those in higher altitudes should be prepared for the possibility of landslides and disruptions to travel.

In addition to the rainfall, the South Coast will experience rough seas. A separate warning has been issued for the period between 03:00 and 18:00 on Tuesday January 21, with waves potentially reaching up to 11 meters. Mariners and beachgoers should avoid risky activities during these hours.
