Anticipating Paid Parking At Pico do Arieiro, Date Yet To Be Confirmed
The government plans to implement paid parking throughout Pico do Areeiro to address ongoing traffic issues, though no specific date has been set. The aim is to alleviate traffic confusion caused primarily by irregular parking.
Capacity For 200 Vehicles And New Rules
To combat traffic problems near Pico do Arieiro, a new parking lot with a capacity for 200 vehicles has been established, situated about 800 meters from Pico. Access is simplified with the construction of a path, allowing a 10-minute walk to Arieiro. Additionally, new rules and restrictions have been introduced for parking near the radar to enhance overall traffic management.
Unresolved Traffic Management
The decision to introduce paid parking stems from the persistent challenges faced in managing traffic in the area. The existing confusion and disruption to traffic flow are mainly attributed to the prevalent issue of irregular parking. By making all parking lots at Pico do Areeiro subject to payment, the government hopes to incentivize more orderly and responsible parking practices.
Public Transportation, Shuttle Bus, Anyone?
How about a shuttle bus from Funchal that brings people to Pico Arieiro and that does not park there? Even involving public transportation could be a viable option. It seems like an obvious take and I am wondering why this is not part of the solution.
