PAN Madeira Wants More Regulations For Breeders
PAN Madeira has called for stricter inspections of kennels in the region. The party has raised concerns about the welfare of animals in private kennels, particularly those that breed and sell specific breeds. During their electoral campaign, PAN Madeira received complaints about kennels in northern municipalities, including one in Porto Moniz, where animals were allegedly kept in "dubious conditions."
PAN Files Written Complaints
The party has filed written complaints to investigate whether these kennels comply with legal requirements and safeguard public health. They are particularly concerned about kennels where different species, such as sheep, cattle, and poultry, are mixed, which could increase the risk of disease transmission.
There are several situations that come to us, these being the most alarming, given that there are people who breed these animals without any concern for their well-being.

Kennels Require More Supervision
PAN Madeira emphasizes the need for greater supervision of kennels to ensure that they meet current standards and prioritize animal welfare. The party also advocates for the regulation of animal use, a review of the status of animal providers, partnerships with municipal councils to create official collection centers, and the hiring of municipal veterinarians. Additionally, they propose a regional census of stray animals and increased funding for sterilization and vaccination programs to support the work of animal welfare organizations.
