PAN Madeira Speaks Out For Reforming Public Transportation In Madeira

PAN Madeira Campaigning In Ribeira Brava

PAN Madeira was campaigning in Ribeira Brava this afternoon. According to Jornal da Madeira, Ribeira Brava is the region where many public complaints regarding the public transportation system are lodged. PAN advocates for the urgent renewal of a public transportation system worthy of its name.

What PAN Says About Public Transportation

Ribeira Brava, a municipality with several high, isolated areas and where public transport is the only and great guarantee of mobility and connection to services.

Reshaping the sector is crucial and is the only way to take the step towards energy transition and social equity. It is unthinkable that, in the current year and given the technological options that exist, there are still areas in Madeira with only two daily bus connections per day.

We need hubs, electric and/or hybrid vans that make frequent connections to the centers, we need to listen to the population, we need to create a scheduling system, we need to reformulate the sector from top to bottom.

“The PAN - PEOPLE - ANIMALS - NATURE Party continues in direct contact with the population, this time in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, a municipality with several high, isolated areas and where public transport is the only and great guarantee of mobility and connection to services. Reshaping the sector is crucial and is the only way to take the step towards energy transition and social equity. It is unthinkable that, in the current year and given the technological options that exist, there are still areas in Madeira with only two daily bus connections per day.

“There is no point in creating a pompous competition for fleet renewal if we continue to invest in combustion engines, in models identical to those that are proven to be obsolete. We need hubs, electric and/or hybrid vans that make frequent connections to the centers, we need to listen to the population, we need to create a scheduling system, we need to reformulate the sector from top to bottom. To increase the number of users of public transport it is necessary to make it attractive and compete with the car, otherwise, naturally, people will have more difficulty making the transition” - says PAN Madeira deputy, Mónica Freitas

The PAN advocates the reformulation of public transport in a more sustainable and modern way using the study of routes, timetables and a partnership model with smaller and tend to be electric vans. At the same time, we also propose the expansion of the transport service by telephone booking, which is close to and meets the needs of the most isolated and needy populations. Finally, among many other measures, given that passenger safety is crucial, we advocate improving lighting conditions and shelters so that all passengers feel safe while waiting for transport.

PAN Madeira is committed to the reformulation of public transport and needs more strength to take its proposals to parliament.”
