Portugal Ranks as a Top Destination for American Travelers in 2025
Portugal ranks as the second most popular travel destination (“hot destination”) for Americans in 2025, according to a study conducted by the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA). The research, carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers, surveyed 96% of USTOA members, revealing that Italy claimed the top spot, followed by Portugal and Greece in second place.
France, Japan, and Spain Make the Top Ten List
Other prominent destinations include France and Japan, tied for fourth place, followed by Spain, Iceland, Croatia, and South Africa. Australia, Morocco, and Thailand.
Vietnam Leads in Off-the-Beaten-Path Travel
For travelers seeking unique and less-traveled destinations, Vietnam emerged as the leader. Iceland and Japan tied for second place, with Croatia, Morocco, South Korea, and Turkey sharing third.
Fourth place featured a diverse mix, including Albania, Bhutan, Italy, Namibia, and South Africa.
