Miguel Albuquerque who yesterday said that he will not resign, today declared that he is stepping down from his position as the president of the Regional Government. He made this announcement following the Extraordinary Political Commission that happened earlier today, stating that his successor will be proposed on Monday

Albuquerque Praises His Achievements

The news of his resignation has been reported by various national media outlets. Before revealing his decision, Albuquerque reflected on his term, highlighting the "exceptional" economic growth under his governance. Acknowledging the need for government stability for the benefit of Madeira, Albuquerque expressed his willingness to contribute to finding a suitable solution. He emphasized the support for the existing coalition.

The details of this solution will be finalized during the scheduled meeting of the Political Committee at the beginning of the next week. Miguel Albuquerque has been President of the Regional Government of Madeira since 2019. He has previously been the Mayor of Funchal (1994–2013).
