Prime Minister Spotted in Funchal During Quiet Family Holiday

Luís Montenegro, Prime Minister of Portugal and leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), arrived in Madeira on Friday morning to spend the Easter holiday with his family. He was seen walking calmly through the central area of Avenida Arriaga in Funchal later that day, just before the traditional Good Friday procession.

The Prime Minister was joined by his wife and other close relatives for this short vacation, making use of the long Easter weekend to rest. During the public outing, he was accompanied by officers from the Public Security Police (PSP), who are in charge of his safety.

Political Engagement Planned During Stay

While the trip is mainly for personal reasons, the Prime Minister’s time in the region will also include political activities. On Tuesday, he is expected to participate in an event organized by PSD-Madeira as part of their campaign for the upcoming regional legislative elections, scheduled for May 18.

This visit allows Montenegro to show support for the local party branch during a key moment in the electoral calendar. Madeira has historically always been a stronghold for the PSD, and the Prime Minister’s involvement may help maintain voter engagement in the lead-up to the election.
