Passeio Público Marítimo Will Not Reopen Any Time Soon
The popular Passeio Público Marítimo promenade between Funchal and Camara de Lobos is currently still under maintenance. Work began earlier this year to repair the promenade. As reported by RTP Madeira, crews are currently focusing on the pillars holding the promenade and the lower section in general.
Work has already begun and will continue until July.

Promenade Remains Closed
This first phase of the reconstruction work is expected to be finalized this month. After this, further improvements from Formosa Beach onwards will be tackled. Until everything has been resolved, the promenade will remain closed.
Reconstruction Costs €400,000
The entire project is reported to cost approximately €400,000. This includes VAT, work being done to reform the promenade and supervision of the work and facilities.
Failure to Specify Reopening Date Provokes Defiance & Complaints
With the promenade closed for several weeks and no reopening date provided directly, frustration is mounting among those who frequent the area. The only information given on site is a sign on the side Camara de Lobos side of the promenade, indicating that the construction work aims to be brief.
Meanwhile, some individuals and tourists are ignoring the closure, trespassing over barriers, and others are even damaging warning signs. Others are complaining online about a lack of transparency and respect towards those who are strolling around the promenade being blocked from continuing their hike.
