Praia do Vigário in Camara de Lobos Welcomes Back Visitors
I couldn't locate any news on this, but Praia do Vigário, also known as Camara de Lobos Beach - has reopened all of its gates to the public after undergoing renovations for over a year. Previously, only the access from Restaurante Praia do Vigário had been opened, allowing people to go down the stairs to the waterfront. Now as it appears, for the last few days, both gates on the Rua Nova da Praia and the Passeio Maritimo do Camara de Lobos have been permanently open, allowing visitors to circle the entire area without having to backtrack the same way. There are also no more signs of any further construction works, all previously stationed construction vehicles have disappeared. People are barbecuing on the beach and exploring the new promenade.
Praia do Vigário Construction Works
Praia do Vigario now has a completely new promenade that looks really fancy and inviting. In addition to this, officials also secured the hillside of Ilhéu de Câmara de Lobos against rockfall. The later works are the main reason for the east side of the beach missing out on the entire 2023 season. The east side had previously been opened for swimming.
Impressive Hiking Trail
The reopening of Praia do Vigário means that the scenic trail from Lido Funchal to Praia do Vigário in Camara de Lobos is open again for hikers. This trail is about 5.5 kilometers long and stands out for its beautiful nature, pebble beaches, and the fact that it doesn't have steep slopes. It's a great option for a relaxed walk, especially if you're with older individuals or children - the terrain is easy to navigate.
