€100,00 Unallocated - Animal Protection Associations Await Funding
The People-Animals-Nature Party (PAN) has called on the Regional Government of Madeira to urgently allocate funds to animal protection associations, which are still waiting for financial support promised in the 2024 Regional Budget. Despite the budget provision of €100,000 specifically for animal welfare, bureaucratic hurdles have delayed the release of these funds.
We are full of animals. Full of debts.
Tomorrow we will receive more animals that are already cleared for release, and we don’t even know where we are going to accommodate them.
Treatments at the clinics are ongoing, and we don’t know how we will pay for them.
Funding Stalled in Administrative Limbo
The 2024 Regional Budget included a €100,000 allocation for animal protection initiatives, a commitment made by PAN. However, despite the importance of these funds for the associations' work, the money has not yet been made available due to unresolved administrative issues.
PAN Urges Faster Action from Regional Government
Válter Ramos, Vice-Spokesperson for PAN Madeira, criticized the delay, emphasizing that animal welfare organizations in the region play a crucial role in filling gaps left by public entities. Ramos called on the Regional Government to prioritize these associations and ensure the funds are released quickly and without bureaucratic delays.
It is unacceptable that they continue to wait for funds that are essential to fulfilling their mission. The Regional Government must prioritize these organizations and ensure that support is provided quickly and without bureaucratic delays.
