Madeira is embarking on a new era of public transportation with the launch of SIGA, an integrated bus system provider that promises to revolutionize the way residents and tourists get around the island. This article will explore what SIGA is and everything you need to know about it.

What is SIGA?

SIGA is the new public road passenger transport network of Madeira and Porto Santo. It brings together three transport operators - Companhia de Autocarros da Madeira, Rodoeste and Horários do Funchal - under a single brand and ticketing system.

What Changes With SIGA?

Renewed Fleet

SIGA introduces a fleet of 127 new buses, more modern, comfortable and with a uniform image.

Free Travel On Madeira Day

On July 1st, Madeira Day, the new public transport provider celebrates launching operations and all trips on SIGA will be free.

Integrated Network

SIGA offers a more integrated transport network, with a single pass that allows you to travel on any operator in the network.

New Ticketing

SIGA introduces a new ticketing system, GIRO, which finally allows the use of a single card on all transports in the network.

More Accessibility

SIGA improves accessibility for people with reduced mobility, with adapted buses and a pre-booking service.

Expansion of the Sales Network

The ticket sales network will be expanded to all municipalities of Madeira. This expansion will take place gradually and in the future.

What Do I Need To Know About SIGA?

Start of Operations: SIGA starts operating on July 1st, 2024.

Passes and Tickets

Existing passes and tickets will be gradually replaced by the new GIRO card. Customers with paid inter-municipal passes should start the card exchange process as soon as possible. See the July schedule for buying tickets.

Costs Of Tickets
