Extreme winds hit Funchal today, causing disruptions, toppling motorcycles, and forcing traffic to halt. Authorities issued warnings as Storm Martinho intensified.

Extreme Winds Hit Funchal, Creating Dangerous Conditions

Powerful wind gusts swept through the island of Madeira on Tuesday, making travel difficult and causing damage in several areas. In Funchal, particularly along Estrada Monumental near the entrance of Fórum Madeira, the intense winds led to serious disruptions in road traffic, forcing motorcyclists to halt their journeys or turn back altogether.

We are now in Funchal, and I can say that the entire Madeira territory, including Madeira and Porto Santo, is under an orange warning. The Port of Funchal's captaincy has issued a warning, which is quite uncommon here in Madeira, for stormy winds. This means that it is more severe than a strong wind warning.
