Suspect Was Caught Within The First Week
Just five days following the vicious attack on the Caixa Geral de DepĂłsitos bank branch in Camara de Lobos, law enforcement successfully apprehended a suspect. On January 12, a vigilante forcibly entered the bank and tied up both employees and clients. Armed with a firearm, the assailant made off with a substantial sum, reportedly exceeding 240,000 euros, before escaping the scene with the assistance of a waiting driver.
Accused is a 42 Year Old Father of Three
According to sources, the accused is a 42-year-old married individual and father of three children, residing in Camara de Lobos. It remains unclear whether there is any connection between this incident and the recent armed robbery at a Caniço gas station that occurred just days prior.
Suspect Was Identified Through His Car
According to Jornal Madeira, the police successfully apprehended the suspect by tracking the information related to the car used in the robbery. The police were quoted saying that the car was parked next to the suspect’s residence.
“Following the investigation carried out, it was possible to reference a vehicle, suspected of having been used in the robbery. The vehicle in question was located, with the relevant collaboration of the PSP of Câmara de Lobos, last night, parked next to the suspect’s residence.”
Update 6.10pm: Money Recovered, Suspect Facing up to 15 Years in Jail; Fake Firearm Was Used
RTP Madeira reveals, that the police held a press conference where it was said that they were able to recover almost all of the stolen money and that the suspect had no prior criminal record. Contrary to previous statements, it is possible that a fake firearm was used during the robbery.
