Two Male Drivers Arrested For Alleged Scam

In Funchal, Madeira, two male taxi drivers, aged 45 and 49, faced legal consequences for overcharging customers. The Traffic Police took action on January 29th following complaints from foreign citizens about tariff violations. The first driver, after a 3-hour service, was found to have charged three times the regulated tariff. Witnesses and material evidence confirmed the overcharge, leading to his arrest and the seizure of his vehicle.

A Similar Incident Took Place Yesterday

A similar incident occurred on January 30th when another taxi driver, after a 4-hour service, charged four times the regulated tariff. Witnesses and evidence again confirmed the overcharge, resulting in the arrest and seizure of the second vehicle. Both drivers were presented to the judicial authority, receiving identity and residence orders. The cases are currently under investigation.

Police: Operators Must Inform Tourists

In response to these incidents, the Regional Command of PSP Madeira has urged tour operators and hotels to inform tourists about regulated tariffs to prevent overcharging. This action aims to protect visitors from falling victim to unfair pricing practices. The authorities are actively working to address the issue and ensure a fair and transparent taxi service for residents and tourists alike.
