Those Are The Arrested in Today’s Operation
Jornal da Madeira has released a list of individuals detained today as part of an ongoing investigation. Here are the details they provided:
There were several theories and speculations that emerged from the moment JM first reported the ongoing investigation. Some were not confirmed. Those who are currently detained are already in the Funchal Prison, awaiting judicial questioning.
The detainees are indicted for the crimes of economic participation in business, receiving or offering undue advantages, prevarication and prohibited financing of political parties.
Humberto Vasconcelos
Born 1967, he held government roles between 2015 and 2023, initially leading the former Regional Secretariat of Agriculture and Fisheries, and later overseeing Agriculture and Rural Development. Several of the investigations focus on his former Secretariat.
In 2005, he joined the list of the Social Democratic Party (PPD/PSD) for the municipal elections in São Vicente as an independent, becoming a member in 2007
Carlos Teles
The mayor of Calheta, currently serving his final term, has extensive experience in local government, first as a councilor, then as vice-president, and for the past 11 years, as mayor.
Paulo Santos
The former regional director of Agriculture and Rural Development, a close associate of Humberto Vasconcelos according to Jornal da Madeira since April 2015.
Bruno Freitas
Has been the president of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Health Administration, IASAÚDE, since September 2021.
Daniela Rodrigues
The former chief of staff of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development, according to Jornal da Madeira a trusted associate of Humberto Vasconcelos since 2015, first served as an economic advisor before becoming chief of staff in 2019.
CecÃlia Aguiar
Another official from the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development under investigation is a specialist who, between 2019 and 2023, coordinated promotional events and materials for regional agricultural and agri-food products.
Humberto Drumond and Miguel Nóbrega
Partners in the communications company Dupla DP, founded in 2001, are central to the investigation, accused of defrauding the public treasury in several deals involving the other six suspects.
