Ajuda Alimentar CĂŁes Pleads for Return of Seized Lynx
The local animal welfare association, Ajuda a Alimentar Cães, has launched a public appeal to have a desert lynx by the name of “Bores” recently seized by the GNR (National Republican Guard) returned to its owner. A petition with over eight thousand signatures is demanding the lynx's immediate release from captivity and reunification with its family. The plea urges authorities to reject plans to transfer Bores to a zoo.
Bores Has Been Domesticated And Is Accustomed To Living At Home
The association contends that the lynx, despite being a wild animal, has been domesticated and is accustomed to living in a home environment. They argue that Bores was acquired as a cub before current animal welfare laws were in place and has lived with a human family for six years.
Lynxes Are Not Pets
"Lynxes are not pets like dogs and cats," the association acknowledged in a social media post. "However, Bores has lived in a safe, enclosed environment with other animals and humans since birth. He is accustomed to a specific diet and has regular veterinary care."
Bores Is Depending On Its Family
The association expressed concern over the lynx's well-being in captivity, stating that the animal is "sad, stressed, and depressed." They believe that Bores would not survive in a zoo environment and should be returned to his family.
Animal Welfare Should Be The Primary Concern
While the association acknowledges that the owner may have made a mistake in keeping a wild animal as a pet, they argue that the animal's welfare should be the primary concern. They have offered to allow authorities to monitor the lynx's living conditions and have proposed that the owner be punished as a deterrent to others.
