Exiled Venezuelan Politician Addresses Madeira's Civil Society
The conference Todos por Venezuela organized by the Partido Socialista of Madeira (PS), took place at the Barceló Hotel in Funchal. The event, which focused on the ongoing political crisis in Venezuela, brought together various civil society associations, including those representing the Madeiran diaspora, as well as political figures like Venezuelan exile and opposition leader, Manuel García.
Portuguese Diaspora's Role in Defending Venezuelan Democracy
Paulo Cafôfo, leader of the Partido Socialista (PS), stressed the importance of standing up to the Venezuelan dictatorship, especially given the large Portuguese community residing in the country. Cafôfo declared, emphasizing that Portugal has a responsibility to defend its diaspora in Venezuela by upholding the values of freedom and democracy.
We cannot be indifferent or moderate in the face of a dictatorship.
Manuel García Highlights Electoral Fraud in Venezuela
In his speech, exiled Venezuelan deputy Manuel García spoke about the illegitimacy of the current regime, stating that opposition candidate Edmundo González won the presidential election with over seven million votes, as confirmed by official records. García called on the international community to recognize the seriousness of the situation and support the Venezuelan people's fight for justice and democracy.
Venezuelan Opposition Leader's Message
Opposition leader María Corina Machado, though not physically present, sent a recorded message in which she affirmed Venezuela's commitment to reclaiming its prosperity, safety, and fairness.
