Ukrainian War Heroes Set to Participate in Funchal Run
The 2025 Funchal Marathon, set to take place on Sunday, January 19, will feature two remarkable participants: Artem Skrypnyk, 45, from Kyiv, and Ihor Bielinskyi, 41, from Odesa. Both are Ukrainian veterans and adaptive athletes, as they have lost their leg in combat, who will run an 8-kilometer segment of the event. It is their first time covering this distance since sustaining these severe injuries while defending Ukraine.
Their participation highlights an inspiring journey of recovery, as the pair have undergone extensive medical and psychological rehabilitation to regain mobility and pursue active lifestyles.
Veteran of the 74th Battalion and Combat Medic, participated in the defense of the cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Bakhmut, where he was injured. After medical treatment and rehabilitation, he returned to save lives at the Rescue and Diving Station."
