Water Supply Issues Continue To Affect Arco Da Calheta

Calheta authorities are working to fix water supply issues in Arco da Calheta, urging residents to conserve water.

Officials Acknowledge Water Supply Issues

The Municipality of Calheta has acknowledged that the parish of Arco da Calheta is experiencing continued disruptions in its water supply. Technical teams are working diligently to identify and resolve the issue. In the meantime, the municipality urges residents to conserve water and limit its use to essential purposes.

How Residents Affected Experience The Water Outage

According to residents affected by the lack of water, the outages happen often at night, with no running water being available until the morning hours. During the daytime, the water pressure is sometimes weak, but water is usually running and there are barely any shortages. The issue is also not new but has become a more pressing issue in recent times with outages experienced several nights in a row.

What Is the Reason Behind The Lack Of Running Water?

According to the municipality, the lack of running water is believed to be caused by a combination of factors, including low water levels in springs, increased consumption during the summer months, and potential leaks in the network. The timing of the water outages, often occurring at night when consumption is typically lower, raises questions. However, this could potentially be due to scheduled maintenance or repairs on the water supply system.

Municipality Gets Water From Other Areas

To mitigate the impact on residents, the municipality, in collaboration with Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM) and the Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, has been transporting water from other areas within the municipality, such as Ponta do Pargo and Estreito da Calheta.
