Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Forecasted for Monday
Madeira is set to experience severe weather conditions early next week, with heavy rain and strong winds predicted. According to the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), a yellow alert has been issued for these conditions on Monday, January 20. The warning will remain active from 09:00h to 15:00h
Strong winds are also expected in mountainous areas, the southern coast, and Porto Santo. This yellow alert for wind will be in effect from 09:00h to 13:00h on the same day.
Wave Alerts Upgraded to Orange for Tuesday
Sea conditions are expected to worsen significantly as the week progresses. Starting at 21:00h on Monday, the waters around Madeira will begin to get rough, leading to a yellow alert for maritime activity until 06:00h on Tuesday.
From 06:00h to 13:00h on Tuesday, January 21, the alert will be raised to orange for the northern coast of Madeira and Porto Santo. Waves reaching heights of 6 meters are expected along the northern coast, while waves up to 5 meters are forecasted for Porto Santo. Authorities are urging residents and visitors to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel or activities near the coastline during these hours.
