Not a Single Hotel for Sale in Madeira
Tourism in Portugal continues to thrive, attracting both domestic and international investors, especially in the hospitality sector. According to Idealista.pt, this surge in demand has led to a 27% reduction in the number of hotels available for sale by August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Out of 147 properties listed, major decreases were seen in Faro (-14 units), Porto (-12), and Madeira (-12). Notably, Madeira, with 173 hotels listed on booking.com, is according to Idealista the only region in Portugal with zero hotels for sale on their website.
Stark Contrast To Post Pandemic Period
This contrasts with the post-pandemic period when many owners put their hotels on the market. Now, tourism is driving real estate demand, making hospitality a key investment sector. While supply is shrinking in many regions, opportunities still exist across the country, with Faro, Lisbon, and Porto accounting for 44% of available properties. In contrast, some regions like Guarda, Beja, and Castelo Branco saw an increase in the number of hotels for sale, signaling varied market dynamics across Portugal.
